About
Robyn Orlinâs We wear our wheels with pride and slap your streets with color⊠We said âbonjourâ to satan in 1820 is a vibrant tribute to the rickshaw drivers of South Africaâs past, celebrating their resilience, artistry, and strength. Inspired by Orlinâs childhood memories of Zulu men pulling elaborately decorated rickshaws under apartheid, the piece transforms their movements into a dynamic fusion of dance, song and theatrical spectacle. Performed by Johannesburgâs renowned Moving into Dance Mophatong (MIDM), the work reconnects with a shared cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance. Co-presented with Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels.
